How Is Naked Casein Different from Other Products?

What first caught my attention is the fact that it only contains one ingredient, namely casein. Its casein comes from skim milk, which in turn comes from US farms. Additionally, it’s also completely free from growth hormones such as rBGH or rBST – substances that can be injected into cows to increase milk production.

With no other ingredients than Casein, it’s also gluten, GMO and soy-free. It’s also free from artificial sweeteners, colors, and flavors.

Some companies also see fit to bleach their products because it makes the final product look more appealing. However, Naked Nutrition, which by the way does their processing in the US, isn’t one of them. They state that Naked Casein is a pure product – With nothing to hide.

Naked Casein Review Criteria #1: The Taste

The best way to describe the taste of Naked Casein is neutral. Neutral and bland, like watered-down milk – Not exactly an exciting culinary experience. However, this makes sense considering its (lack of) contents. Mixing it with some type of milk instead of water makes it a bit thicker, and changes the consistency slightly.

One of the good things about unflavored products, however, is that you have the ability to experiment with your favorite ingredients. There’s nothing wrong with adding casein to a smoothie, to make it more appealing.

Less Naked Casein is another alternative for those who like a more convenient option. It’s available in two flavors:

1. Less Naked Casein Chocolate – Nothing more than Naked Casein with Organic Coconut Sugar and Organic Cacao Powder.

2. Less Naked Casein Vanilla – Naked Casein with Organic Coconut Sugar and Natural Vanilla Flavor.

Review Criteria #2: Mixability

The mixability of Naked Casein is what you would expect from a protein powder with no emulsifier.

When prepared in a shaker, it tends to clump and requires a moderate to high amount of shaking to create a smooth mixture. Adding the powder before the fluid makes it a bit easier. At any rate, the most effortless way to mix it is in a blender.

Reduced mixability seems to be the price that we pay for a pure protein product, and it’s a quite common issue. Nevertheless, it’s a problem most people are willing to see past.

Review Criteria #3: Nutritional Value

Naked Casein is a cold-processed micellar casein protein powder. This careful manufacturing method avoids contamination and damage to proteins.

One 110-calorie serving of Naked Casein contains 26 grams of protein, and zero carbohydrates or fat. It also provides a load of essential amino acids, of which 5.4 grams are BCAAs – a respectable amount for a Casein Protein Powder.

Furthermore, it also contains several micronutrients. Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium are the ones present in a meaningful amount. One serving provides respectively 62, 39 and 7 % of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA).

Review Criteria #4: The Company Behind the Product

Naked Casein is produced by Naked Nutrition, often called Nkd Nutrition, a small company founded in 2014. Naked Nutrition provides a wide range of products, from protein powders to glutamine powder. It seems that their mission is to provide the cleanest nutrition supplements on the market.

Naked Nutrition has all of their protein powders tested for allergens and heavy metal contamination. According to their website, this is performed by an independent laboratory. The test results are available on their website.

Elevated levels of heavy metals in protein powder was a topic of much discussion just a few years ago when a research project uncovered some nasty results. In light of this, it gives peace of mind knowing some companies go the extra mile to ensure the quality of their products.

From my point of view, it seems that Naked Nutrition is a transparent and trustworthy company. After all, their motto is “Nutrition with nothing to hide”.

Naked Casein Review Summary
