Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein Review: No or Go?
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein is a well-known product that has been on the market for several years. But does this mean that it’s a great product? Let’s find out!
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein is made using milk from dairy cows that graze in Northern California. If you’re a local, you might know the specific counties from where it originates – namely Del Norte and Humboldt.
The processing also takes place in California, which means it’s not just a US product – It’s a Californian product!
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Review Summary: Unflavored Version
Is Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein Organic?
The short answer to this question is no. However, like many, and maybe even most grass-fed protein powders, it comes close due to several reasons.
First off, it doesn’t contain any nasty substances or growth hormones. Additionally, the cows that produce this whey graze on clean fields. These fields aren’t subject to any pesticides.
At any rate, it’s missing the organic certification. This is most likely due to the fact that the certification would increase the cost of the product. As you might know, the certification process is rather costly.
As a result, several companies with products that would qualify, choose not to.
Review Criteria #1: The Taste
The taste of this unflavored version is milky and a bit chalky when it’s mixed with water. Therefore, we suggest mixing it with milk. For those that dislike the taste of milk, it may be a better option to add it to a smoothie or add a preferred flavor.
Promix also provides this exact product in alternative flavors. The most popular ones are vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter. And just in case you’re wondering, these flavors are made by adding natural ingredients – not artificial sweeteners.
The downside of getting one of these is that you lose the flexibility of unflavored protein powder.
It’s also worth mentioning that there are reports of inconsistencies in the flavor and color of this product.
However, Promix clarifies this on their website. The variances in flavor are explained to be caused by a change in the cows’ grass quality. The reported inconsistencies in color are said to be a result of different cheese productions – from where the whey is derived.

Review Criteria #2: Mixability
Many protein powders clump, are hard to blend and sometimes require scraping down – even in regular blenders.
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein, on the other hand, is easily mixed in a regular shaker bottle, as well as in a blender. Mixing it by hand in a cup is, as usual, not a good solution.
One can appreciate that it accomplishes this level of mixability, without adding considerable amounts of any substance. The only emulsifier is non-GMO sunflower lecithin, which amounts to less than 1% of the total content.
Lecithin is a fat that can be found in several foods and is generally well tolerated.
Review Criteria #3: Nutritional Value
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein appears quite solid nutrition-wise.
The product is cold-processed to ensure any unnecessary use of heat. This ensures that you get a powder of the highest quality – containing undenatured whey protein concentrate. The milk that it’s made from is, however, pasteurized. This is according to FDA guidelines which applies to every commercially available whey protein powder.
Each two-scoop serving stores 25 grams of protein and 5.9-grams of Branched-Chain Amino Acids. Furthermore, it contains 10 grams of leucine per 100 gram of protein, which is the target amount for any whey protein concentrate.
Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein also comprises a high amount of the potentially powerful antioxidant glutathione. Glutathione is suggested to have several interesting benefits, including maintaining a good immune system.
Review Criteria #4: Universality
Considering that this is an unflavored protein powder, it’s suitable for several applications such as in baked goods. It doesn’t alter the taste – which is great! Note that this is only the case for the unflavored version.
Promix Grass-Fed Whey only contains two ingredients; Whey Protein and Sunflower Lecithin. As a result, it can be used by just about anyone.
Considering that it’s a whey protein concentrate, it will contain lactose. Hence, individuals with lactose intolerance will have to look for alternatives. Additionally, lecithin may cause side effects for some people.
The Company Behind the Product
Promix Nutrition is a company dedicated to producing high-quality products. This is reflected through the ingredients that they use, considering they’re sourcing from grass-fed cows and using natural non-GMO additives.
Equally important is the fact that they have each production batch tested. These tests include checking for allergens and heavy metal contamination. Additionally, a third-party laboratory also validates the nutritional content.
As a result, we’re convinced that Promix Nutrition is an honest company that delivers top-notch product.
What Are Others Saying?
Our Promix Grass-Fed Whey Protein Review is just one of many, so let’s take a look at what others are saying about the product.
Out of 100 reviews, the general consumer-verdict is positive. The negative reviews mention a bad aftertaste, inconsistencies in flavor and color, along with poor packaging.
At least one of these problems are improved on, however. This product was delivered in an unsealable bag previously. As of 2019, however, it will arrive in a plastic container.
The positive reviews have a trend of mentioning taste, mixability and a good feeling about consuming a clean product.
